Philosophy of The Work

Some artists start with a plan. I start with a material. A root system. A slab of wood, a piece of stone pulled from the ground. Long before a tool touches it, the piece already exists. My job is to find it. Over the past 4 decades working across tattooing, sculpture, wood, and mixed media, I’ve learned that the best work isn’t forced into existence. it’s uncovered. When these materials enter the studio, the process begins. Carving, burning, casting, lighting. Sometimes revealing. Sometimes transforming. The goal is to reveal what it wants to become. The goal is never to overpower the material. The result is functional sculpture-furniture and objects that feel less like they were manufactured and more like they were discovered or unearthed. Pieces that feel alive, pieces that belong to the landscape they came from.
